The CA701 combines an authentic grand piano touch with modern sound technology.
Welcome to the KAWAI Concert Artist Digital Piano Series.
Experience its inspiring sound, elegant design, and exceptional range of features.
Grand Feel III Wooden-Key Keyboard Action with Let-Off Simulation and Ebony & Ivory Touch Surfaces
The CA701 features KAWAI’s Grand Feel III wooden-key action, delivering an exceptionally realistic playing experience. The length of each key—from the front edge to the balance pin—is longer than that of any other digital piano keyboard. All 88 black and white keys are crafted from long, solid wooden parts and, just like a grand piano, each key pivots smoothly on a central balance pin. When a key is pressed, a weighted hammer is lifted, faithfully replicating the natural motion of an acoustic grand. A triple-sensor detection system ensures precise repetition and outstanding control.
The graded hammer weights recreate the authentic feel of a grand piano, with heavier touch in the bass and lighter touch in the treble. Additional weights are embedded at the front of each key to provide optimal balance—supporting powerful fortissimo playing while allowing fatigue-free control during delicate pianissimo passages.
The Grand Feel III action also features a Let-Off (escapement) simulation, offering enhanced control for the softest, most nuanced playing.
All 88 keys are finished with KAWAI’s Ebony & Ivory Touch key surfaces, providing a tactile, slip-resistant feel that enhances accuracy and confidence during performance.
Shigeru KAWAI SK-EX Competition Grand and SK-EX Concert Grand Sounds, Reproduced with the Latest SK-EX Rendering Technology
The beautiful tone of the Shigeru KAWAI SK-EX concert grand is at the heart of the new CA701.
It is now presented in two distinct variations: the familiar SK-EX Concert Grand, as featured in previous models, and the newly introduced SK-EX Competition Grand.
The new SK-EX Competition Grand sound was newly and meticulously sampled from a latest-generation Shigeru KAWAI SK-EX concert grand selected specifically for international piano competitions.
Using multiple microphone positions, the full nuance and tonal richness of this exceptional instrument were captured. The resulting sound offers greater power, clarity, and dynamic range. The blended microphone perspectives are optimized for the performer’s position—unlike the SK-EX Concert Grand, which presents a more audience-oriented tonal character.
To reproduce the impressive tonal complexity of the Shigeru grand pianos as faithfully as possible, KAWAI has further refined the SK-EX Rendering sound engine. This advanced system combines high-resolution multi-channel sampling of all 88 keys with state-of-the-art resonance modeling technology. Multi-channel sampling captures the instrument’s tone from several key positions, providing a broad spectrum of tonal colours and enabling more natural expressive changes across the entire dynamic range.
This vivid, expressive piano tone is further enhanced through newly developed physical modeling algorithms that replicate the intricate resonances produced by strings, pedals, and other components of an acoustic concert grand. The resulting richness and complexity give the player the sensation of sitting at a true Shigeru KAWAI concert instrument.
Six-Speaker System with 360° Diffusers
In addition to high-end audio signal processing, powerful 110-watt digital amplifiers, and a premium headphone amplifier, the CA701 is equipped with six speakers and upward-facing 360-degree diffusers. These specially engineered components deliver a spacious, immersive sound field that fills the entire room, allowing listeners to experience the same rich, natural tone as the player—with no loss of clarity or quality.
Alternative Acoustic Piano Voices and a Wide Selection of Additional Sounds
In addition to the new SK-EX Rendering sound engine, the CA701 is also equipped with KAWAI’s acclaimed Harmonic Imaging XL technology. This includes alternative acoustic piano sounds and an extensive collection of additional voices. Among them is the distinctive tone of the KAWAI EX concert grand, as well as the expressive sound of the mid-sized Shigeru KAWAI SK-5 grand and the characterful KAWAI K-60 upright piano. These instruments allow players to explore a variety of tonal personalities, from different grand piano sizes to the unique qualities of an upright.
Beyond its acoustic piano voices, the CA701 offers a broad range of additional sounds—including electric pianos, drawbar and church organs, strings, and choir voices—enabling musicians to perform comfortably across a wide variety of musical styles.
Dual Mode allows two different sounds (e.g., piano and strings) to be layered together, while Split Mode and Four-Hands Mode divide the keyboard into left and right sections, ideal for lessons, ensemble playing, or creative practice.
Shape Your Sound with the Virtual Piano Artisan (VPA)
The CA701’s integrated Virtual Piano Artisan (VPA) feature allows players to refine and personalize the tonal character of their selected acoustic piano, harpsichord, or electric piano sound directly from the display. Parameters such as string, damper, and cabinet resonances—as well as hammer fall-back noise—can be adjusted with precision. Players can even modify the pitch and volume of individual notes and save their customized voicings to a Favorite memory location.
Touchscreen Control
The CA701 features a 5" touchscreen with a reflection-resistant, anti-glare surface, allowing all functions to be operated with ease. In addition to the onboard interface, the instrument can also be controlled using the PianoRemote app for iOS and Android, which mirrors the internal menu system.
For an even more focused playing experience, the display can turn off automatically when not in use, minimizing visual distractions while performing.
Bluetooth® Audio/MIDI
In addition to its USB-to-Host connection, the CA701 is equipped with Bluetooth® MIDI 5.0 technology, enabling wireless communication with smart devices such as smartphones and tablets. This allows you to seamlessly integrate a wide range of music-related apps—including the KAWAI PianoRemote app and the PiaBookPlayer app—with your CA701 digital piano.
You can also take advantage of Bluetooth® Audio 5.1. Simply connect your smartphone to the CA701 and enjoy your music through the instrument’s high-quality speaker system. This feature is ideal for play-along practice, listening to lesson videos, or enjoying your favorite tracks with rich, full-room sound.
USB-to-Device Functionality with MP3/WAV Recording and Playback
The CA701 is equipped with USB ports that allow not only the exchange of MIDI data with a connected computer, but also the direct storage of files to a USB memory device. You can play back songs by your favorite artists in MP3 or WAV format directly from the instrument.
You can also record your own performances in MP3 or WAV format and share them with friends via email, listen to them on a smartphone or computer, or even burn them to a CD on your PC.
Design and Ergonomics
The CA701 impresses not only with its advanced internal features but also with its refined, contemporary design. High-quality components combined with a sophisticated aesthetic make the CA701 a standout addition to any living space.
Great attention has also been given to ergonomics. The pedals are positioned further back to provide a more natural and comfortable playing posture. In addition, the music rest includes fold-out support pins that prevent sheet music from slipping, ensuring a more convenient playing experience.
